PINYIN – The Handbook You Need for Pronouncing Mandarin Perfectly
Pinyin is a handbook I made during my first semester at Boston University. As an international student from China, I have always been proud of the inclusiveness and diversity fostered at BU. I have witnessed numerous instances where faculty and staff members made genuine efforts to pronounce the names of international students correctly, which left a lasting impression on me.
In my role as a graduate assistant at the school office, I often found myself assisting colleagues who were interested in learning Mandarin. Inspired by these interactions and recognizing the need for a systematic approach to Mandarin pronunciation, the idea of creating a Pinyin Handbook sparked in my mind. So for my type project in Typography I, I chose to craft a practical and functional handbook to facilitate the learning process for my colleagues instead of a well typeset book filled with lorem ipsums.
