Screenprints

During my time at Boston University, I discovered my interest in screen printing. I really love the texture of the fiber paper and the smoothness of the color blocks created by pressing ink. The artist’s labor involving in the making turns a digital idea into a real piece of art.

Freshness

Silkscreen | 8.5" x 24" | edition of 7

The Chinese character in this print represents “freshness,” signifying a state between life and death. As a compound word, it consists of three identical characters for “fish” in Chinese. In this print, I aim to depict its meaning by illustrating an underwater scene with fresh fish struggling to swim toward the surface of water.

Vase on Red

Silkscreen | 16" x 22" | edition of 4

Skilled printers may understand that this print is challenging. Achieving even color in such a large block demands strength and focus. The delicate vase in the center adds another level of difficulty. I exaggerated its proportions to highlight the beauty of the red and the delicacy of the vase.

Cats Need Baths

Silkscreen | 11" x 17" | edition of 8

This print was inspired by a conversation in class about whether cats need to be washed. I regularly bathe my cats, typically once every three months. My friends from different backgrounds express surprise at this, suggesting that cats should not be bathed. This intriguing observation about people’s habits from diverse backgrounds caught my attention, prompting me to create this print to express my perspective.
